Apply for a visa for France in Vanuatu

Reception of visa applicants residing in Vanuatu and Solomon Islands who apply for a visa to travel to France as a single or main entry destination, is provided by the consular section of the French Embassy in Port Vila. Please note regarding Vanuatu and Solomon Islands, France represents 13 Schengen States.

  • The visa requests must be lodged with scheduled appointments. The consulate will no longer receive applications without previous appointment. To make an appointment, please go to the “whom should I contact” page.
  • French Embassy is relocated to the Residence de France at Tassiriki, opposite the Holiday Inn hotel.
  • All applications have to be submitted in person at the French Embassy.
  • For people who have to travel to Vanuatu to apply, please note that the nearest hotels to the French Embassy in Port-Vila are : Holiday Inn (€€€), Vila Hibiscus Motel (€). Port-Vila being a small town, any hotel is situated within a reasonable distance by foot or by bus (150 vatus one way).

Reminder :

The short-stay visa exemption has been definitively cancelled to holders of ordinary Vanuatu passports.

Ni-Vanuatu passports holders, as other nationalities benefiting of a visa waiver, must present supporting documents at the request of the Border Police upon your arrival in France. Please check the list online.

What are the application fees?

Fees receivable by the French administration (pdf) to process your visa application.

Fees are charged in vatus, and in cash only for the processing of a visa application.

Payment by credit card or cheque is not accepted.

The rates are indicated in euros, and are converted according to the rate of Chancery at the day of your application.

You will be issued an invoice the day of your application. Please note there is no refund, even in the case of refusal of visa.

Délais

It is highly recommended that you apply for your visa several weeks prior to your departure, especially during peak periods of the year (from December to February) .

There is no express application process.

For short-stay visa : 5 working days is the minimum to issue visa for a complete file.

For long-stay visa : the average time for issuing a long-stay visa is 15 working days. However, please note delays are extended for long-stay visa to New-Caledonia or French Polynesia, as local authorities have to be consulted.

The French Embassy will generally accept visa applications 6 months before entry into France at the earliest.

Retrait du passeport

The withdrawal of the passport can only be done by the applicant or by a duly mandated third party (the visa service must be notified when filing and the file must contain a signed authorization from the applicant).

Residents of the Solomon Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga and Tuvalu

You will need to make an appointment to submit your application, in person, at the consular section of the French Embassy in Port-Vila.

The territorial jurisdiction of the French Embassy in Port-Vila is extended to residents of Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga and Tuvalu (in accordance with the decree of June 7, 2018).

Representation of other Schengen States

France represents 13 Schengen States in Vanuatu: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Czech Republic, Slovenia and Switzerland.

But there is no agreement for representation of Schengen States for the circumscription of Fiji, Nauru, Kiribati, Tonga and Tuvalu. As a consequence, please note the French Embassy in Port-Vila only delivers visa when France is the State of first entry in Schengen OR State of main stay. Please check your ticket before applying.

For Germany, the applicants must submit their file in the German Embassy in Wellington.

For example, the French Embassy in Port-Vila cannot issue visa for a Fijian national going to Poland or Portugal only.
