Apply for a visa for France
Visa applications files in Sweden are processed by the Visa Department of the French Embassy in Sweden, the only authority enable to make visa decisions.
Nationals of the member states of the European Union and assimilated are not submitted to visa for entry in France, whatever the duration of their stay and if they are able to present a valid passport.
Citizens of third countries can visit France without a visa for a short stay (max.90 days) if they hold a valid passport and a valid Swedish residence permit, the only document certifying their legal residence in Sweden.
Any other reason of stay in France (work, studies ...) is subject to a visa request.
Please, take note that the delay to obtain an answer regarding your visa application depends on the type of visa sought:
- For short-stay visa applications, plan to submit your file at least 3 weeks before the scheduled date of your departure.
- For long stay visa applications, allow a minimum of 1 month between the deposit of your file and the planned date of your departure.

Reception and deposit of visa files by applicants are ensured, by appointment, by the consular section of the French Embassy in Sweden.
What are the application fees?
Fees are seen in Swedish Krona (SEK) by the French administration for the processing of your application. Payment only by credit card or by swish. The rates are indicated in euros (€), to get the price in local currency (SEK), please convert the amount indicated in the table by applying the rate of Chancery. The amount received is kept by the administration, even in the case of refusal of Visa.
Book an appointment
The appointment is usually available within 24 hours (working days), but it may vary.
We recommend that you make an appointment in advance of your planned date of departure to avoid disappointment.
Once you have gathered all documents required for your visa, you have to take an appointment with the visa section of the French Embassy in Sweden.
This process is only allowed on our website, without additional fees or other thing to do.
The required appointment makes easier your formalities towards the visa section, lowing the waiting time and permits a better preparation of the visa file.
When you will have subscribed on our appointment application, you keep the possibility to change the day and hour of your appointment as you wish by clicking on “Changing your appointment”.
In case of a cancellation, you can also use our application or contact us by e-mail.
At the end of the appointment process, a receipt is issued. This document must be printed and presented on your appointment day at the entry of the Embassy.
If you lose or have difficulties to print the receipt, you can print a new copy by clicking on “Changing your appointment”.

Practical Information on the progress of the appointment
Personal appearance
All applicants are required to appear in person at the time of their appointment, whatever their age is.
Applicants under 18 must be accompanied by one of their parents or by the holder of the parental authority
Prepare your venue
All documents below have to be gathered in original and copy per each required documents before your venue:
- Your valid passport. The expiry date must be at least 1 year and 3 months left at the time of your application,
- Your valid Swedish residence permit,
- 2 visa forms printed, dated and signed,
- 2 photos corresponding to official standards: norme ISO/IEC (pdf),
- Your documents presented in order according to the the list of requirements.
We draw your attention on the fact that the visa fee has to be paid on your application day.
Biometric data
All visas issued by France are biometric visas.
Applicants who are over 12 years of age are required to appear in person at the time of their first application. The following biometric identifiers are collected: a photograph, scanned or taken at the time of the application, and 10 fingerprints, taken flat and digitized.
Children under 12 years of age are not required to provide the biometric data. Short stay Schengen visa application may be submitted by the child’s parent/legal guardian. The ISO/IEC format photograph (pdf) of the child will be scanned.

Collecting your passport
The withdrawal is made on the day and time desired by the applicant in agreement with the visa department of the Embassy of France in Sweden.
Passport for foreigners "Främlingspass"
This type of passport is recognized by France as a travel document if it includes a mention of readmission on the Swedish territory without time restriction.
The holder is then authorized to visit France without a visa during the validity of his passport and his Swedish residence permit. He must be able to show both documents when he arrives in France.
Stay in French overseas territories (DROM / CTOM and TAAF)*
Nationals of the Member States of the European Union and assimilated as well as citizens of third countries holding a residence permit enjoy the same rights of circulation in the DROM / CTOM as for a short stay in metropolitan France.

Visa applications for residents in Iceland
As the visa department of the French Embassy in Iceland is closed, the processing of visa applications is carried out by the French Embassy in Sweden.
