Making appointments

When you are sure that you have all the supporting elements in your application file, you can make an appointment, depending on your case, with VFS Global or the French Embassy in Kigali (OFPRA family reunification applicants only).

Appointment times

We recommend that you make an appointment well in advance of your planned departure date to avoid any disappointment..

Submitting an application is possible up to 6 months before the departure date for a short-stay visa and from 3 months before the departure date for a long-stay visa.

Likewise, there is an influx of requests as the summer and winter school holiday periods approach. Obtaining an appointment may then exceed reasonable delays, whereas during any other period, it is limited to a few days. Consequently, applicants are invited to make arrangements to submit their applications with sufficient anticipation to avoid having to postpone their departure.

Personal appearance : All visa applicants must appear in person to submit their application to the consular services..

Prepare your visit

On the day of your appointment, remember to bring: :

• The appointment confirmation letter (to print if you made an appointment online);
• The file containing all the required documents classified in the order of the list of documents;
• Means of payment of visa fees and service fees.

Submitting a complete application does not mean that the consular authority will automatically issue you the requested visa.

The amount of visa fees will be paid to VFS Global or the Embassy Visa Service (in cash for the latter).

We remind you that only visa service agents via its service provider VFS Global are authorized to request additional supporting documents from you and that no external intermediary is approved in matters of visas.

Collection of biometric data

All visas issued by France are biometric visas.

Any visa applicant over the age of 12 is required to appear in person when submitting their first application. The following biometric identifiers are collected on this occasion: a photograph, scanned or taken at the time of application, and 10 fingerprints, taken flat and digitized. It is however possible to recover your biometric data, if a previous biometric Schengen visa was issued less than 59 months ago.

Children under 12 years old: children under 12 years old are exempt from biometrics, the application must be lodged by one of the child's parents or by the person holding parental authority. The photograph compliant with the ICAO standard (pdf) of the child will then be scanned.

Collection of your passport can only be carried out by yourself or by a duly authorized third party.

Have you lost your French residence permit?

You should apply for a return visa from this website and follow the standard procedure via our service provider VFS Global. A declaration of loss or theft of your former title will be requested as proof of your application.

Rwanda is now part of the EEF (Etudes En France) process. You must follow the steps of the Etudes en France process before you apply for your visa.
