Applying for a visa in Pakistan to visit France

Visa applications submitted in Pakistan are examined by the French Embassy in Islamabad; only the Embassy is authorised to take decisions about visas.

  • For short-stay visa applications,please submit your application well in advance of the date of departure since it takes 15 to 20 days minimum to obtain a short-stay visa after the interview at the embassy;
  • For long-stay visa applications, please submit your application well in advance of the date of departure since it takes 30 days minimum to obtain a long-stay visa after the interview at the embassy

What are the visa fees?

Before the interview and biometrics, a visa applicant must pay a visa processing fee. The amount is collected only in local currency (provide the exact amount in Pakistan Rupees PKR), at the current chancellery rate. A receipt corresponding to the amount paid is given to the visa applicant.

The amount is non-refundable in case the visa is rejected.

The list of the 10 AEG offices where requests for appointments must be made is available on the AEG website.

AEG's offices are open from Monday to Thursday and on Saturday from 9:00 to 13:00 and from 14:00 to 17:00, on Friday from 09:00 to 12:30 and from 14:30 to 17:00.

AEG has two types of tariffs, depending on the location of the AEG offices (in  Islamabad or outside of Islamabad). The return of the passports is also provided by AEG.

Before requesting an appointment, make sure that you hold a passport whose expiry date must be three months longer than the end date of validity of the requested visa.

Do not ask for an appointment if you do not have all the documents required by the regulations. Please check the various lists of supporting documents on the visa wizard.

It is strongly recommended to make an appointment well in advance of the date of departure. It takes an average of 15 days to obtain a short-stay visa and 30 days for a long-stay visa, after the interview at the visa section. This duration is only indicative as additional delays may be necessary in view of numerous Schengen consultations, additional checks or technical problems.

 Group organizers

Group organizers are informed that appointments for Schengen visa applications should be requested through AEG at least a month before your intended appointment date at the visa section

The individual interview and biometrics are compulsory at the time you apply for a visa. It can only be done at the French Embassy in Islamabad. The Consulate General of France in Karachi is not competent to receive visa applications and to issue visas.

Admission to the premises of the French Embassy is authorized after the usual security checks (weapons, dangerous goods and mobile phones are forbidden).

No visa application may be submitted more than 6 months before the scheduled date of departure.

The collection of biometric data (photography + fingerprints) is required of all visa applicants over the age of 12 years.

Only the visa applicant is allowed to enter the visa section of the French Embassy in Islamabad.
Minor children must be accompanied by a parent (father or mother) or a person who has parental authority (guardian).

Visa applicants must be in possession of visa application forms, completed, dated  and signed, accompanied by all supporting documents corresponding to the type of visa requested (originals and photocopies in A4 format only).

Please respect the exact order in which documents must be assembled, this will reduce the waiting time at the counter.

Letters and supporting documents must be written in French or in English.

ID photographs

The prescribed format of the ID photographs must be respected The characteristics of the photographs allowed for a visa application are indicated on the website (see the different sections :  photography quality, style and lightning, glasses and head cover, expression and frame). Any ID photograph that does no respect the guidelines will be rejected.

International insurance

Make sure that the international insurance presented in your visa file has been issued by an insurance company noted on the list of companies approved by the Schengen embassies.

Official and diplomatic passports' owner

Official and diplomatic passports'owners will be received from Monday to Thursday from 12:00 to 13:00 on appointment through a MOFA Protocol Officer.
