The International Intercountry Adoption Mission (MAI) has jurisdiction for deciding on the issue of a long-stay visa for "adoption" where there is a foreign decision authorising the adoption and removal to France of a minor, by a French or foreign parent, usually residing in France.

However, the MAI does not have jurisdiction in the case of children adopted under the law in force in their country of residence by persons usually residing abroad at the time of adoption. In such a situation, and subject to the regularity of the decision, the visa application may be treated either as it would be for a French foreign minor or as part of a family reunion.
